Kandhkot

Kandhkot is a place in Kashmore district, and it’s also where the district’s main offices are. The name “Kandhkot” comes from two Sindhi words: “Kandh,” meaning riverbank, and “Kot,” which means fort. So, Kandhkot refers to a fort built by people carrying materials on their shoulders, to protect the area. It’s not too big, covering about 654 square kilometers, and it sits on the north side of the Indus River. Before, Kandhkot was part of District Jacobabad, but later it became its own Tehsil. This change happened in 2004 when Kashmore Kandhkot became its own district. Kandhkot is surrounded by the Indus River on one side, and other areas like Tangwani, Kashmore Taluka, and Shikarpur on the other sides. Some parts of Kandhkot even reach into the Indus River. In Kandhkot, there are 11 Union Councils (UCs), 8 Tapas (Revenue Villages), and 10 Tapas (Circles). The city is famous for its clock tower shaped like a triangle, beautiful Balochi embroidery, traditional embroidered shoes, and tasty Balochi mutton Sajji. These things show the city’s rich culture and delicious food.
